Institute of Biochemistry and Signal Transduction

Welcome!

Welcome to the website of the Institute of Biochemistry and Signal Transduction!

Our institute investigates the basics of the internal communication of human cells (=signal transduction). We pay special attention to the study of infections and tumor diseases and their effects on the cellular balance.

How do pathogens take control over human cells? How does communication at the smallest level change when tissue degenerates? How can we investigate and understand the molecular basis of diseases? These are the questions that we, as scientists, are dedicated to. As committed teachers, we want to inspire our students for our research.

We see ourselves as researchers from different disciplines who use complementary approaches to dissect biochemistry - and thus the molecular basis of biomolecules - and open up new ways of analysing them.

We are strongly committed to the biochemical education of medical doctors. We teach students how diseases can be understood biochemically and how therapies work on a biochemical basis.

We cordially invite you to gain a first impression of our institute, our research and our philosophy on our website.

The institute’s own research projects can be summarized under the following categories:

  • Characterization of the molecular relationships in disease and infection
  • Molecular signal transduction
  • Macromolecular structure/function analysis in therapy research
